Artisan Acre’s first magic workshop is history, and, happily, it surpassed everyone’s expectations. The only thing that didn’t go according to plan was the weather. The heavy rain that fell all weekend kept everyone indoors, but the view of the waves crashing on the shore of Georgian Bay was spectacular.
The goal was to provide information, constructive criticism, hands-on guidance, and great stories in a relaxing environment. Shortly after everyone settled in to their lodgings, things kicked off with stories and card tricks in the lodge’s great room. The first session started immediately after dinner – at the dinner table – with performances by Johnny Thompson and me.
The next morning, the stories began again over coffee, and continued with more discussions at the breakfast table. The lodge has a projector and screen that allowed us to view videos (of attendees and of early Tomsoni performances) and offer commentaries and critiques. Several of the guests also offered routines for analysis.
The day ended with Johnny Thompson holding court until the wee hours of the morning.
